January is the coldest month for the city. Being one of the coldest places, the residents of the city are already used to living in sub-freezing temperatures.
But now that the temperature in the city has dropped to minus 50 degrees Celsius, residents of remote areas are taking extra measures to keep themselves warm.
Reuters spoke to a resident of the city. He was wearing two sheets, multiple layers of gloves, hat and hood while speaking.
"You can't fight this cold," the resident of Yakutsk told Reuters. So either you adapt, dress accordingly, or suffer.'
Another resident of the town was selling frozen fish in the local market. According to him, the main strategy to protect oneself from such cold outbreaks is to wear layers of clothing.
Just wear warm clothes, says this fishmonger from Yakutsk. Dress in layers like cabbage leaves.
In 2018, the city experienced severe cold. The residents of the city said that even the eyelids were frozen in the cold.
