New military aid from the US and European allies to Ukraine does not have tanks

The United States and some of its European allies have announced significant military aid to Ukraine, including armored vehicles and heavy weapons. The aid was announced ahead of an important meeting to strengthen Ukraine's defense capabilities. But it does not have the western technology tanks that Ukraine wants. News from AFP and Al-Jazeera.

A statement from the US Department of Defense said on Thursday that Ukraine will be given military aid worth about 2.5 billion dollars. Their support package includes armored vehicles, air defense systems and rockets and missiles. This support also includes 59 Bradley warships and 90 armored vehicles. 

US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Ukraine will be able to use this new security assistance to ensure its protection from Russia. 

The US Secretary of State also said that with this new aid, the United States has given Ukraine about 2,740 million military aid so far.

Earlier, in a joint statement with defense ministers and representatives of 9 European countries, the United Kingdom said that they would also send 600 Brimstone missiles to Ukraine. Denmark has pledged to send 19 French-built Caesar Howitzers and Sweden its Archer artillery system.

The announcement of this assistance came ahead of a meeting of defense ministers and other officials of about 50 countries in Germany on Friday. All 30 member countries of the military alliance NATO will be present in that meeting. The meeting to be held at Germany's Ramstein air base will discuss aid to Kiev.

In a video address on Thursday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that Kiev expects firm decisions from the meeting.
