A young man was trying to smuggle snakes and chameleons in a novel way. He was carrying snakes and chameleons from one country to another, wrapped in foil paper, in food boxes and socks. However, the young man was caught during a search by inspectors at Israel's Ben Gurion Airport. News from NDTV.

The man was recently arrested while returning to Israel from Hungary. His age is around 20.

Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has already released photos and videos of the incident.

The video shows customs inspectors searching the man's bag at the Israeli airport. At one stage of the search, a food box and a pair of socks were found inside the bag, along with snakes and chameleons. Inside the box, he wrapped the animals with snack bags and foil paper to make it look like the box contained food.

The suspect's name has not been released.

Israel's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said the rescue of the animals was carried out with the cooperation of inspectors from the Ministry of Agriculture, the Directorate of Customs, the Nature and Parks Authority and the Border Guard.

According to local media reports, the young man arrived in Israel on a return flight from Hungary. This happened a few days ago. He can be jailed for up to two years.

Authorities say the animals will be sent back to the country they were smuggled from.
