Putin ordered a two-day ceasefire in Ukraine on Thursday to allow Orthodox Christians to celebrate Christmas.
According to Putin's order, Russian troops will keep the ceasefire in Ukraine from 12 noon on January 6 to midnight on January 7.
Biden responded to Putin's order yesterday. He said the order was just an attempt to find breathing room for Putin's belligerence.
Biden said he was prepared to bomb hospitals, nurseries and churches on December 25 and New Year's Day.
"I think he's trying to find some oxygen," Biden said.
US State Department spokesman Ned Price called the Russian president's cease-fire order "cruel".
Ned Price said, 'We have little faith in the motives behind this announcement.'
The US State Department spokesman expressed concern that Russia could use the ceasefire to regroup, rest and re-attack.
Ned Price said Putin may be trying to fool the world by announcing this ceasefire. Putin wants to show that he wants peace.
Ned Price doesn't think Putin's announcement will change the course of the war.
Ukraine also criticized the ceasefire announcement. Kiev called the announcement 'hypocrisy'.
Mykhailo Podoliak, adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said that the territories of his country occupied by Russia must be released first. Only then will there be a temporary ceasefire.
Russian forces started attacking Ukraine on February 24 last year. There were calls from various sides to Russia for a ceasefire. Russia declared a full ceasefire for the first time since the start of the war.
