Russian Foreign Ministry official Alexei Polishchak says that if Kiev decides to attack Russia or Belarus, Belarusian troops may join the war in Ukraine.
Alexey Polishchak said this during an interview with the Russian state news agency Tass on Friday.
At the beginning of the Ukraine war, Russian troops entered Ukraine from neighboring Belarus. And since last October, Moscow has been deploying troops for joint military exercises in Belarus. Since then, the military ties between the two countries have also strengthened.
Alexey Polishchak told Task that, from a legal point of view, if Kiev's leaders attack the territory of Russia or Belarus, it would be enough to launch a counterattack. However, the leaders of Russia and Belarus will decide whether to give such a response or not.
Zelensky is also wary of Belarus' participation in the war. He said last Wednesday that since Belarus has a border with Ukraine, it must be wary of attacks from the country. But so far, Belarus has done nothing but talk about the war, he said.
Zelenskiy said, "We have seen that Belarus has not done anything but big talk so far. But whatever they do, we have to be prepared in the border and near-border areas of our country.'
