The United States has announced a new $2.5 billion security assistance fund for Ukraine. Under the funding announced on Thursday local time, the US Department of Defense Pentagon is providing Ukraine with Straker armor for the first time. In addition, the country will receive several more Bradley fighter jets from the United States this spring to fight against Russia.
Western allies of Ukraine are meeting in Germany. The meeting will discuss the details of providing more military assistance to the country. Before the meeting, this security assistance fund of 2.5 billion dollars has been announced by the United States. It is the second largest military aid fund for Ukraine announced by Washington. Since the start of the war on February 24 last year, Washington has pledged a total of $2,670 million in military aid to Ukraine.
In this regard, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said in a statement, 'The United States has united the world in providing assistance to Ukraine. We have seen incredible solidarity among our allies in this regard. Congratulations to more than 50 countries for this. These countries have come forward to make important contributions in support of Ukraine.
Anthony Blinken also said, 'Russia alone can stop the ongoing war in Ukraine. Until that happens, we will stand by Ukraine. As long as necessary, I will help Ukraine.'
Under this aid fund, Ukraine will receive 90 Straker armored vehicles and another 59 Bradley fighting vehicles from the United States. Earlier, the US provided 50 Bradley fighter jets to Ukraine under another aid fund. Under the new funding, Washington will provide ammunition for the Himmers rocket system. These weapons will play a role in increasing the strength of the Ukrainian army to resist the Russian forces in the ongoing war.
Earlier, in a joint statement with defense ministers and representatives of 9 European countries, the United Kingdom said it would send 600 Brimstone missiles to Ukraine. Denmark has pledged to send 19 French-made Caesar howitzers and Sweden its Archer artillery system to Ukraine. Finland has announced a new arms aid worth 434 million dollars. However, the president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is repeatedly asking Western allies for tanks. According to him, Without tanks, it may be difficult to survive the war against Russia. There has been no announcement from the western allies regarding the delivery of Leopard-2 tanks to Ukraine. However, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has agreed to give Challenger-2 advanced tanks to Ukraine.
