In an interview with RBC media last Wednesday, retired lieutenant general of the Russian army and member of parliament Viktor Sobolev spoke in favor of a ban on beards. He said the ban on beards, use of personal smartphones and tablets is an essential part of military discipline.

Kadyrov criticized Sobolev's comments in a Telegram post on Thursday. Lt. Gen. Viktor Sobelev seems to have endless free time, he writes. Unable to find work, he is re-learning the military code of conduct.

Kadyrov called Sobolev's comments a clear provocation. He said that most of the Muslim soldiers wear beards according to religious rules.

Earlier, Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Russian mercenary group 'Wagner Group', also criticized Sobolev's comments. He termed the comment as the most absurd and outdated since the 1960s.

Kadyrov's and Prigozhin's forces are fighting for Russia in Ukraine separately. However, since the defeat of the Russian army in the fall, both of them have turned against the Russian military leadership.
