| Iranian man who beheaded 17-year-old wife jailed for eight years |
The husband has been sentenced to only 8 years in prison for beheading his 17-year-old wife and walking around with severed heads. The BBC reported this news with reference to Iran's Department of Justice.

Last year, the incident of 'honour killing' in Iran caused quite a stir. A picture of a man named Sajjad Haidari with the severed head of his wife Mona was published in Ahvaz city of the country.
A spokesman for the Department of Justice said that Mona's parents forgave the girl's killer instead of demanding justice. Because of this, his punishment is reduced.
Mona's father had earlier said that he did not consent to honor killings.
Mona got married at the age of 12. She gave birth to a son at the age of 14.
According to local media reports, Mona fled to Turkey due to her husband's torture. Her husband did not allow her to get a divorce even though she asked for a divorce.
Mona returned to Iran just days before the murder in February last year. Because, the family assured to keep him safe.
Justice Department spokesman Masoud Sitayeshi told reporters on Wednesday that Sajjad Haidari was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison for murder and another eight months for torture.
Masoud Sitayeshi also said that this judgment was made according to the laws of Iran. According to the law, the death penalty can be imposed if the family does not forgive the killer.
Monar Dewar was sentenced to 45 months in prison for his involvement in the murder.
After this terrible murder, there is a demand for legislation to prevent domestic violence in Iran. There has also been a call for a fixed age for marriage. In Iran, the marriage age for girls is fixed at 13 years. But girls younger than this can get married with judicial and parental consent.
14-year-old Romina Ashrafi was beheaded by her father in 2020. He was beheaded for running away with his lover. Before the beheading, Romina's father discussed with the lawyer what the punishment could be for this crime. According to the law, the father was sentenced to 9 years in prison. This is one year less than the maximum sentence provided for in Iranian law.
The Iranian government later approved the draft law. According to this law, various incidents of violence against women will be considered as crimes. Parliament will pass this law. UN experts say this is not enough action.
Iran is now vocal in anti-government protests. The protest took place last September against the death of a young woman named Masa Amini in the custody of the Morality Police for not wearing a hijab.
Several people were executed for their involvement in the protests.
